Foundation plants refers to the foundation around the home. Usually the foundation is comprised of long or large spaces of brick or siding that look best when visually broken up by plantings. Many times evergreens are used as they retain their color all year. Care needs to be taken so as not to select plantings that will obscure windows, or any areas that are best left exposed such as stonework or interesting architectural details. Foundation plantings also work well to hide the lattice around elevated decks, to hide large sections of privacy fencing, or block the view of air conditioning units and trash cans.
